Foreword
Welcome to the 20th International Conference on Polymer Optical Fibers. This annual meeting has already become a classic. It constitutes an unparalleled opportunity to join the scientific community working in the field, who can share the new advances along the year. It also reinforces the continuously increasing interest of both users and researchers in POF related applications and innovations. POF conferences have been held in European, Asian and American countries and also in Australia since 1992. They have become one of the most important conferences on POF design, devices and systems for applications in telecommunications, networking, sensors of many types, illumination, cables, components, auto & aero industry, etc. The great quality of scientific contributions that is always achieved in the conference is worldwide recognized.
The 20th International Conference on Plastic Optical Fibers continues the tradition, this time in Bilbao from September 14 to September 16, 2011. Once more, we hope to repeat or improve the high number of high-quality paper submissions and attendants of previous POF conferences. We are all looking forward to listening to the exciting developments that will be presented this year. Besides, Bilbao has the essential ingredients for a very pleasant stay. It has the attractive features of a nice city with beautiful surroundings, whose evolution in the last few years has attracted worldwide attention and even an international award.
